Historian and museum professional Ceylan Swenson, a native of East Northport and a Northport High School graduate, presented a well-attended online lecture, sponsored by St. Paul's Unitied Methodist Church in Northport. The lecture, titled "Liviing on Common Ground: A New Look at Northport-East Northport's Black History," traced the experience of both enslaved and free African Americans in our area from the 1650's to the 1950's. Ms. Swenson's research undearthed details that brought to light and fleshed out an all-too-obscured aspect of the developement of our local area and of Long Island in general.
